Add or Update Phone in Duo

Setting up Duo for the first time
You've never used Duo before and need to enroll a device.
- Install the Duo Mobile app on your phone from the App Store or Google Play
- On a computer, go to gmail.emerson.edu and log in with your Emerson email and password
- Duo will automatically walk you through enrollment — follow the prompts to add your phone
- When you see a QR code, open Duo Mobile on your phone, tap the + button, and scan it
- Once setup is complete, you'll be logged in and Duo will protect your account going forward
New phone, same phone number
You got a new phone (or reinstalled Duo Mobile) but your phone number hasn't changed.
- Install the Duo Mobile app on your new phone from the App Store or Google Play
- On a computer, go to gmail.emerson.edu and log in with your Emerson email and password
- When the Duo prompt appears (“Check for a Duo Push”), click Other options
- At the bottom of the list, click Manage devices
- Verify your identity using a method you still have access to (text message passcode to your same number, security key, etc.)
- Find your phone in the device list and click I have a new phone
- Duo will text a reactivation link to your number — open it on your new phone to activate Duo Mobile
New phone, new phone number (and you have a backup device)
Your phone number changed, but you still have another way to verify with Duo (a second phone, security key, etc.).
- Install the Duo Mobile app on your new phone from the App Store or Google Play
- On a computer, go to gmail.emerson.edu and log in with your Emerson email and password
- When the Duo prompt appears, click Other options
- At the bottom of the list, click Manage devices
- Verify your identity using a method you still have access to (security key, backup phone, etc.)
- Click Add a device and follow the prompts to set up your new phone
- Once your new device is working, you can remove the old one by clicking Edit next to it, then Remove
New phone, new number, and no backup device
You have no way to verify with Duo at all — you'll need help from IT.

Tip: We recommend setting up more than one device in Duo (for example, your cell phone and a tablet or office phone) so you have a backup if one is lost, broken, or out of battery. You can add additional devices anytime through Other options → Manage devices → Add a device during any Duo login prompt.
